Why
Every electronics project starts on the bench, and a bench needs a power supply. I wanted one I understood inside and out, so I built my own: one output, adjustable up to 30 V and 5 A.
How it’s built
Power conversion is done with step-down (buck) converters, cooled by fans. Everything sits in an enclosure I designed and 3D printed myself.
What went wrong
The enclosure was the hard part. My first 3D models had the wrong dimensions, so parts didn’t fit and had to be redesigned and reprinted.
At the time I printed on a Bambu Lab A1 mini, which turned out too small for the enclosure. I didn’t want to split the model into pieces, so I brought an old Ender 3 back into service and set it up properly to print the full-size parts.
What I learned
- Measure twice, model once. Check the real components against the CAD before printing.
- Pick the machine to fit the part, not the other way round.
- Even an old printer is a capable tool once it’s tuned properly.

Still in progress. Schematics and design files will be published on GitHub.
